Forth Valley September dates

Alloa's Prairie Star kicks off the month in their regular Weirs Club venue, on Saturday September 2nd, with a visit from Greyhound Express.
The following Friday, 8th, sees Reunion visiting The San Quentin C&W Club in Maddison.
There are quite a few Country Music Festivals in Scotland throughout September, including The Bootleggers All day event in Bannockburn Club on Saturday, 16th.
Colorado CMC continues to run weekly at West Calder Bowlinbg Club. Coming up on Sept 3rd is Jolene & Barry, followed by Stateline (10th), Carson City (17th) and Roll The Dice (24th).

Another Scot for Canadian exposure

Graham Brown , originally born in Glasgow, but raised in the small town of St. Albert, Alberta, has won a coveted showcase place at the forthcoming Canadian Country music week in Saint John. He recently released his sixth album Stand Your Ground and is currently touring with his band, The Prairie Dogs.

 

Kimber Clayton dead at 38

The Country Hotdisc reports that linedance favourite Kimber Clayton has died at the age of 38. She passed away on August 14th at her Atlanta home. The cause of death is unknown
Born in Montgomery, Alabama, she hit the big time quickly with a huge record, "I Know That Car", which scorched into the charts and was one of the most popular videos on CMT - it aired when CMT was showing in the UK. She went on to have hits with "Jose Cuervo" and "Addicted To Love" and Kimber toured the UK following some substantial success on the linedance circuit.

 

Johnny Duncan dies

Johnny Duncan,best known for his duets with Janie Ficke, died Monday (Aug 14th) of a heart attack at a Fort Worth,TX hospital. He was 67.
Duncan, who had a string of country hits in the 1970s, like "She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed Anytime" and "It Couldn't Have Been Any Better", teamed up with, at the time, unknown Fricke on "Stranger", "Come A Little Bit Closer" and "Atlanta Georgia Stray". At first Janie didn't even get duet credits, but later became a bigger star than Duncan.

 

Kid & Pammie marry at Tootsie's

After a July 29 wedding near St. Tropez, France, and an Aug. 3 ceremony in Los Angeles, Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson arrived at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in downtown Nashville late Wednesday night (Aug. 16) to tie the knot for a third time. The 35-year-old singer, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, wore a tank top. Anderson, 39, wore a minidress. The ceremony at the historic bar on Lower Broadway took place shortly after midnight, and Kid Rock later celebrated by performing Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and Hank Williams Jr.'s "Family Tradition." Kid Rock has been a regular visitor to Nashville in recent times, often catching the headlines for incidents like assaulting a bouncer in a strip club because he didn't like the music!

David Leask returns home

Canadian based Scots singer-songwriter David Leask returns home next month, for a 1 off gig with one of his idols- James Grant, September 2nd at the Cross Keys Inn,
Denholm.
David entered one of his songs, "Run Fox Run" in the Timberman Triathlon Contest recently, and it was voted into the top 15 and will now be featured on a Compilation CD.

 

Lyle Lovett Cancels

Lyle Lovett's October tour of the UK, including Glasgow on October 13th has been cancelled,by the promoter.

Bluegrass Festival reminder

A reminder that the Scottish Bluegrass Association's 20th Bluegrass Festival, held in the small Perthshire village of Guildtown over the weekend of Aug 11,12& 13th. This year's event features top American & European bands...... Red & Murphy & Co,(USA) Two Stringers, (USA) Prof. David Leinweber (USA), Deep River Band (England), Redwing (Scotland), Goldrush(Scotland).

 

New Hank Jr Album

Hank Williams Jr has a new UK CD release this week. "That's How They Do It In Dixie" features two new songs, and 10 classics. The title track features Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and Van Zant. The "classics" include, Family Tradition, THere's A Tear In My Beer, and If Heaven Aint A Lot Like Dixie.

A date for your diaries. US singer songwriter Katy Moffatt makes a welcome return to Glasgow , alongside Tom Clelland.Date is Monday 11th September downstairs at The State Bar, Holland St.

 

Scot gets 5 CCMA nominations

Lanarkshire born JOHNNY REID has earned himself 5 nominations for next month's Canadian Country Music Awards which will be presented in Saint John , New Brunswick on on Monday September 11th.
Johnny has nominations for Single, Independent Single & Songwriter (for "Missing An Angel", Rising Star & Independent Male Vocalist aswards. "Missing An Angel" is featured on Johnny's second album , " Born To Roll".
