Lantana recruits

The "country-with-an-attitude" Dallas-based trio, LANTANA, is excited to announce that Lisa Underwood has returned to the group after a two-year hiatus. Underwood, Biz Haddock and Dalene Richelle are currently in rehearsal for upcoming Fall shows.

 

Brian Hughes video shoot

Brian Hughes, Scotland's singing detective, is filming a tv show next Thursday 4 September at Pollok Juniors Social Club, Newlandsfield Road (just off) Kilmarnock Road. G43 2XU.
Doors open 7pm and close sharp at 7.20 pm to allow filming to commence.
There are only 60 audience places available and Brian says it would be terrific to see you and the family there. The evening finishes at 10 pm.

Jackie Storrar on Celtic Music Radio

CMR Nashville's Jackie Storrar joins Stewart Fenwick on this Sunday's Celtic Country. Stewart will be playing tracks from the Fife lass's "Cross The Border" Cd which has earned her a nomination in the forthcoming British Country Music awards.

Forth Valley gigs in September

The San Quentin C&W Club at Polmont Golf Club, Maddison bring Hillbilly Deluxe to the club on Friday September 5th. The following night, Alloa's Prairie Star Club will celebrate MC Jimmy's birthday to the sounds of Rambling Fever and the comedy of Bert Allan, in a special Country'n'Comedy night at Weirs Club.
Later in the month, Bannockburn's Bootleggers hold their 3rd Mini Festival. No further details have been advised.
Then The No Angels girls in Boness Town Hall welcome Gemma Fairweather on Friday 19th.

BBC opt for Another Country

After 15 years, BBC Radio Scotland have ended Bryan Burnett's "Brand New Country" (formarly Brand New Opry), to be replaced by a new programme, "Another Country", presented by Ricky Ross.
Over the years Brand New Opry failed to get acceptance from many hardcore Country music fans, who previously had enjoyed Gerry Ford's long running programme. However, with the new programme's accent on Americana, it sounds like more of the same.

Elvis spends Christmas with Country girls

Technology has given Country Music stars Carrie Underwood, Sara Evans, and LeAnn Rimes a chance to sing with King of Rock 'N' Roll Elvis Presley, a feat that otherwise would never have been possible.

A new album entitled Elvis Presley Christmas Duets includes many of his greatest hits turned into collaborations with several of today's stars. “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” is a duet with Carrie Underwood, while Rimes adds her voice to “Here Comes Santa Claus.”

Other artists on the album include Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Amy Grant, and Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman from Little Big Town. In a testament to the past, the album is being recorded in Nashville’s RCA Studio B, the same studio where Presley recorded the album in 1971

 

Sugarland sued

Sugarland may be No.1 on the Country & Pop charts in America,but it's not all sweet in the camp. Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush are being sued by former bandmate Kristen Hall for more than $1.5 million. Hall claims to have created the band's name and that she, Nettles and Bush entered into an agreement to equally share profits and losses. After leaving the band in 2005 to pursue a solo career as a singer-songwriter, Hall claims she was excluded from the profits.

 

Jewel ties the knot

New Country star, Jewel and her longtime partner Ty Murray eloped to the Bahamas and were married on Thursday (Aug. 7). Jewel (last name Kilcher), 34, and Murray, 38, have been together for 10 years and share a ranch in Texas. Murray is a retired rodeo champion who starred in the CMT series Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge. He also appears in the video for her current single, "I Do." They had not previously announced an engagement. "I dreamt about this day since I was a little girl on a ranch in Alaska," Jewel said. "It was relaxed and romantic. I wore a traditional wedding gown and diamonds, and he wore jeans and a button-down shirt. Ty's definitely my perfect prince." Jewel released her first country album, Perfectly Clear, earlier this year.

 

Chick splits

Dixie Chicks' Emily Robison and singer-songwriter Charlie Robison have divorced.
They were married in 1999 and have three children. According to papers in the proceedings, their marriage had "become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities."
