Guildtown bluegrass festival

The 25th Annual Guildtwown Bluegrass Festival, held in Prthshire over the weekend of July 29th-August 1st, will also be part of the Bill Monroe Centenial celebrations.
Across the weekend bands from Australia, America and The Czech Republic will be on stage in Guildtown Village Hall, alongside local favourites.
From Australia, Innes Campbell returns to his homeland, Wayne Taylor & Appaloosa head over from the US, and Czech band G-Runs & Roses will be joined by Longway, Dapper McDanns, Goldrush, Home Made Jam & The Moonshiners.

Southern Fried hotting up for Perth

Four times Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett will headline this year’s Southern Fried Festival in Perth.
Other top names in the bag for the fourth annual festival of American Roots Music, which takes place over the weekend of 22 – 24 July in Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre, include Stax! house band members Steve Cropper, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn and Eddie Floyd, Blind Boys of Alabama, Justin Townes Earle, Raul Malo and Savoy Family Cajun Band with many more to be announced.
And the Southern Fried crew is cooking up a sizzling selection of workshops, late night clubs, kids events and finger lickin' food for this super-sized slice of Americana with a warm Scottish flavour.

Shania in TV Awards fall

Shania Twain had a busy week in Nashville, announcing her comeback then coming down to earth with a mighty fall.
She will return to the stage with a two-year residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. She's scheduled to perform 60 shows per year beginning Dec. 1, 2012.
Twain last toured in 2003-2004, promoting her album, Up!, released in 2002.
Meanwhile, on the CMT Video awards, Shania entered by falling in the aisles amongst the audience. She told her fams in a videocast later that she was Ok, and would auction the shoes that caused her to topple.

 

Scots dates for Sugar Hill's Brian Wright

Sugar Hill Records, the renowned Americana and Bluegrass label continues its legacy of incredible songwriters with the release of Brian Wright’s House on Fire.
Brian Wright has already built a firm base with tireless touring in the UK and Europe as well as the USA. This L.A. based, Texas born, singer-songwriter has toured in the UK and Europe once or twice a year for 3 or 4 years, taking on over 50 live dates across the country, with Tom McRae, with Joe Purdy, Greg Laswell, Catherine Feeney and solo. Brian plans to return to Europe and the UK for more dates in May and June.
He'll be at Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh on Friday June 10th and Glasgow's King Tits on Saturday 11th.

 

Another award for Johnny Reid

The Canadian Country Music Association have announced that Scots born Johnny Reid is the recipient of the 2011 CCMA Humanitarian Award. Established in 1989, the CCMA Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding Canadian country artists whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada.
The CCMA Humanitarian Award will be presented to Mr. Reid at a private industry event during Country Music Week 2011 to be held in Hamilton, ON September 9-12.
Since the early days of his music career, Reid has been at the forefront of fundraising and social awareness events for organizations such as the World Vision Foundation, Children's Aid Foundation and the Make A Wish Foundation of Canada, among many others. He performs regularly at benefit concerts in support of humanitarian causes and will participate in the upcoming Slave Lake Benefit Concert on June 15th in support of those who lost their homes in last month's wildfires.
"I am both humbled and honoured to receive this award on behalf of all of us who strive to offer hope and love to those who need it the most," said 2011 Humanitarian Award recipient Johnny Reid.
As the reigning Fans' Choice Award winner, Johnny Reid is sure to have everyone on their feet during his live performance at Copps Coliseum, in Hamilton, Ontario on Monday, September 12.

The Prairie Star C&W Club meet in their usual Weirs Club venue in Alloa this Saturday (June 4th) with music from Blackstone River.

 

Randy celebrates 25 Years with friends

Randy Travis' "25th Anniversary Collection" will be released in the UK on June 6th.
The 16 track collection features many of his old hits like "Forever And Ever Amen", "Is It Still Over" and "Diggin' Up Bones", with a large array of guests including Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood and Kris Kristofferson.
"Didn't We Shine" features George Jones, Lorrie Morgan, Ray Price, Connie Smith, Joe Stampley and Gene Watson.

 

Manson Grant gets Euro nominations

Caithness showband Manson Grant & The Dynamos have been nominated in 4 categories in the 21st Annual European Country Music awards.
Their "Tribute To Buck Owens" album is nominated in the European Album Of The Year Award, whilst "We Were Made For Each Other" is up for Song Of The Year. They're also up for European Entertainer of The Year" and Christmas Song for their "Christmas Polka".

Rankins return

Canadian family bad The Rankin Family are back with a new album, "These Are The Moments" on the Western Songs label.
The popular family group had not played together since brother John Morris was killed in a car crash in 2000. Whilst the surviving members all continued solo projects, they eventually reunited in 2007 for a cross-Canada tour. Such was the reaction, that they were persuaded to return to the studio, and this album was released in Canada in 2009.
The album, with six new songs, and remixes of old favourites like "Rise Again" and "Fare Thee Well Love", has now been released in the UK.

 

New Irish singles

Sharpe Music have released a couple of interesting singles recently.
Derek Ryan has released "Nothing Hurts Like A Heartache", written by the singer, who has just launched his new band.
From the same label Stephen Smyth brings us "The Boy From Donegal"- a tribute to legend Daniel O'Donnell.
