Sad news reaching us from Beaumont,Texas, that Billie Jo Spears, famous for her big crossover UK hits, "Blanket On The Ground" and "What I've Got In Mind" passed away this morning.
Billie Jo was due to return to the UK for a Ladies Of Country tour next May.

Dobie Gray drifts away
Singer-songwriter Dobie Gray, best known for his pop hit "The In Crowd" in 1965 and the country-influenced "Drift Away" in 1973, died Tuesday (Dec. 6) at his Nashville home following a lengthy illness at age 71. Although "Drift Away" was written by veteran songwriter Mentor Williams, it became Gray's signature song. It reached No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
Born Lawrence Brown in Brookshire, Texas, Gray recorded for Capitol Nashville during the mid '80s and charted four singles on Billboard's country songs chart. As a songwriter, his compositions were recorded by several prominent country artists, including George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride and Don Williams.
Meanwhile, twenty-three years to the day since her husband passed away, Barbara Orbison died on Tuesday (Dec. 6) at USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. She had battled pancreatic cancer since her admission into the hospital in May. She was 60.
Born in Germany, she met rock star Roy Orbison in London where the Beatles had opened for him in an earlier U.K. tour and she later married him in Hendersonville, Tenn., in 1969. They remained together until his death, also in Hendersonville, in 1988.

Troubled Mindy found hiding son
After missing for more than three days, country music singer Mindy McCready and her young son Zander were found hiding together in a home in Heber Springs, Arkansas, Friday night.
"The child appeared to be in good condition when we found him," police reported,"He was in the closet with his mother."
The 36 yo singer, had disappeared with the 5-year-old on Tuesday, after McCready removed Zander from her father's house in Cape Coral, Florida. "I have been fighting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring him home," she wrote in a Facebook message.
McCready, who has fought a public battle against drug addiction, does not have custody of the child – her parents do – but she does have visitation privileges.
On Wednesday, it was reported, that McCready is pregnant with twins.

Tootsies birthday celebrated
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Music City’s legendary honky-tonk, celebrated their 51st Birthday in downtown Nashville last week with the help from Kid Rock, The Kentucky Headhunters, The McClymonts, and The Roys. The party started at noon on November 23rd, with performances running into 1:30 am on Thanksgiving Day!
“It's cool to be celebrating their birthday party with them; I like parties and seem to excel in that type of atmosphere,” commented Kid Rock on the event.
Tootsie’s is known to have been used as a “green room” to some of the greatest Opry stars including Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. “Tootsies is where the stars would come to wet their whistles and pick their guitars,” says Tootsie’s owner Steve Smith.
“Two years ago, we celebrated with Kris Kristofferson, Terri Clark, Randy Houser and Mel Tillis. This year, we celebrated with Kid Rock. The Tootsie’s Birthday Bash is becoming an annual event and who knows what we will plan for 2012!," adds Smith.
