Seven Sons for Meeting Place

Seven Sons make a welcome return to the Rutherglen's Meeting Place tomorrow night. They are an original folk/bluegrass band hailing from the banks of the Silvery Tay and the smokey hills of Edinburgh
Ruth Alexander and Clayr Borthwick formed the band in 2011, with Ruth and Clayr on vocals and ukulele. The band now comprises Barry Nisbet (Guitar and Fiddle), Bill Rennie (Dobro and Banjo) and Alan Finn (Double Bass).
Seven Sons’ debut CD was released in May 2014 after receiving the coveted Dundee Musicians Award. “Seven Songs from Seven Sons” was recorded live in the studio by producer Mark Small. Featuring a full band line up of Vocals, Ukeleles, Guitar, Dobro, Banjo, Fiddle and Double Bass, the CD has a mixture of original and traditional songs.
Seven Sons will be supported by the house band - ' The Mairs Family Band'


 

Southern Fried Festival returns to Perth

Southern Fried 2015 takes place from Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August.
Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens, McCrary Sisters and The Fairfield Four headline and the festival will also feature an all-women celebration of the songs of Dolly Parton. Other confirmed acts include Chris Smither, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Speedometer featuring James Junior, Champion Doug Veitch, Della Mae, Red Sky July, Dean Owens and the Whisky Hearts, Yola Carter, Amythyst Kiah, Meaghan Blanchard, Boogalusa, Wolftrain, Eugene Twist, The Holy Ghosts, JD &The Straight Shot and Daniel Meade & The Flying Mules plus many more to be announced.
There will be an expanded line-up of smaller gigs in city centre venues, including a free launch party in the Twa Tams on Thursday 30 July and the Southern Fried Open Mic in Greyfriars Bar on Sunday afternoon. The Southern Fried outdoor stage returns for the second year showcasing the huge range and quality of roots talent on our doorstep, Perth Playhouse will host a film programme and, as ever, the whole festival is fuelled by the famous Southern Fried soul food and served up with a warm slice of Scottish hospitality.

Kasey Musgraves "High Time" for a visit

Following the release of her latest album, Pageant Material, - which has received rave reviews and includes the single ‘High Time’ which is A listed at BBC Radio 2 -  Kacey Musgraves has announced a UK tour in November including Glasgow's ABC on Sunday November 15th.
The Texas native has earned massive critical acclaim since the release of her stunning album, Same Trailer Different Park, including two Grammys at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards (Song of the Year-“Merry Go Round,” Best Country Album) and 2014 ACM Album of the Year.

 

John & Jacob tour announced

John & Jacob, the acclaimed Nashville-based duo of John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, have announced their first headlining tour of the UK having previously guested on high-profile tours with Kacey Musgraves, The Band Perry and The Shires as well as having done one-off shows in their own right.
The tour will be sponsored by Taylor Guitars, and includes a night at Glasgow's stereo on Thursday October 8th.
John and Jacob were both born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up amidst the sounds of front porch pickers and Southern gospel singers.  They met when they were just seven and started their first band when they were fifteen!
 Fast forward to today and they have a rapidly growing reputation both as Nashville hit songwriters and great live performers.  Their debut album, suitably titled John and Jacob, will be released on June 29, 2015.

Jim Ed Brown passes

Grand Ole Opry legend Jim Ed Brown has passed away in a Tennessee hospital at the age of 81.
The singer had several unique careers during his life, firstly as part of family trio, The Browns, then as a solo act, and as a duet act with Helen Cornelius. 
He then went on to present TV programmes like The Country Place & You Can Be a Star on TNN, and more recently presented a Legends radio show. 
2015 was turning out to be a good year for JIm Ed, releasing "Back In Style Again", his first album in decades, and, with his sisters, named as one of this years Country Music Hall of Fame inducees. 
He had been treated for cancer, but given the all clear just a few months ago. But the disease appeared elsewhere and quickly took hold.

Aussie star Britt in cancer shock

One of Australia's brightest Country stars, Catherine Britt has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 30 year old singer, whose US chart hits have included "Little Wildflower" , "Upside Of Being Down", and a duet with Elton John, was diagnosed three weeks ago, and underwent surgery in Newcastle, NSW yesterday.

 

Dominic announces Dumfries weekend

Dominic Kirwan fans are heading for Aberdeen this weekend for their annual get together. Meanwhile, the Irishman has announced another Scottish weekend of music, at The Cairndale Hotel, Dumfries on 27th-29th November.
Before then, Dominic will return to Dunfermline's Carnegie Hall on November 7th.

Cup O Joe at The Meeting Place

There is an additional Acoustic Night at The Meeting Place in Rutherglen next Friday, June 12th.
featuring the fabulous 'Cup O'Joe'.
2015 BBC R2 Young Folk Award nominees, Cup O’Joe, from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, are made up of two brothers, Benjamin, Reuben and a sister Tabitha, who play an energetic style of Bluegrass & Gypsy Jazz music. They’ve been brought up attending music festivals and concerts from a young age. Reuben (18) plays Guitar and Mandolin, Benjamin (20) plays Upright bass, and Tabitha (15) plays Banjo and Fiddle. Close family harmonies can be heard throughout their music. They have released a wonderful first album 'Rough Terrain'. They play at Festivals and Events throughout the year, and are sharing their fantastic music with many different people.
Cup O’Joe will be supported by The Mairs Family Band.
