Waylon - by his eldest son

Terry Jennings, a longtime roadie for his father, Waylon Jennings, will issue a new book titled Waylon: Tales of My Outlaw Dad on April 19.
Terry was born when his father was 19 years old. When the younger Jennings was 15, he was a regular on the road with his father.
Press materials describe the book as “a strikingly honest, loving portrait of a unique father-son relationship that debunks myths and shares dozens of never-before-told stories.”
Terry Jennings is the CEO and founder of Korban Music Group LLC, a music management and publishing company. He has also worked for booking agencies, publishing companies, and as a talent scout for major labels, including RCA Records. He lives near Waco, Texas.

Keep It Country has moved

Just a few weeks after its launch,  ''Keep It Country TV' has moved to a new channell at the top of the music channells on Sky 389 ,
The station will also switch on Freesat 516 on March 1st, and Freeview in early April . There will now be only Country Music and Country related shows on ''Keep It Country TV '', broadcast daily from 11am till 06am , so plenty of through the night Country music,

 

Radio 2 Country returns

Radio 2 are again supporting the Country2Country, with a dedicated DAB radio station running Noon-Midnight March 10th-13th. Radio 2 regulars like Jeremy Vine, Bob Harris, Michael Ball , Sara Cox and Steve Wright all have Country themed programmes, alongside specials from Gretchen Peters, Little Big Town and Don Henly. Then there will be live coverage from the c2C Festival at London's O2 in the evening.

 

Cyndi Lauper Country ?

Every so often, pop stars try their hand at Country.
Cyndi Lauper’s celebrated musical journey takes an unexpected southern turn on DETOUR, her 11th studio album, which finds her putting her signature spin on a dozen classic country songs.
 DETOUR showcases Lauper’s unmistakable voice on country classics from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s and features guest appearances from county music stars Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson. Lauper recorded the album in Nashville alongside a band comprised of the city’s top session players.
The album is due out May 6th.



 

Whispering Bill in print

Country legend, “Whisperin’ Bill” Anderson, one of music's evergreen songwriters, pens the lyrics to his life in a new revealing autobiography, slated for release on September 1, 2016.
Whisperin’ Bill Anderson: An Unprecedented Life In Country Music is a 360-page representation of Anderson’s journey published by University of Georgia Press featuring respected music journalist and Grammy-nominated music producer Peter Cooper as a contributing writer. It includes rare, never-before-seen photos and eye-opening personal stories from Anderson’s nearly eighty years of living – from early days of radio broadcasting in Georgia, to standing alongside the greatest country music stars in the world onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, to being named BMI’s first ICON Award winner in the country music genre.

 

Cantrell coming back

Nashville born, New York based singer songwriter, Laura Cantrell has announced a UK tour in May, with 10 concerts from Glasgow to London and many towns in between. The Glasgow gig is at the 02ABC on Sunday, May 8th.
Laura is  touring in support of the 15-year anniversary of "Not The Tremblin' Kind" as well as the release of "Laura Cantrell at the BBC," a collection of BBC radio performances from 2000-2005. Watch LauraCantrell.com for further info.



 

Loretta's Full Circle

Loretta Lynn’s first new album in over 10 years, “Full Circle” (Legacy Recordings), is released March 4.  BBC Four will show an edited version of a brand new documentary of Friday March 18 – Arena: Loretta Lynn – Still A Mountain Girl.

 

Ameripolitan Awards

Ameripolitan music is a term coined and championed by Dale Watson that describes music that “honours tradition while demonstrating exceptional originality, creativity and musicianship.”  In practice, it supports artists who are too Country for the CMA Awards, and don’t fit into other genres like Americana, bluegrass or folk music.
For the third year, the Ameripolitan Music Awards honoured the best in Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and Outlaw music, in a lavish ceremony in Austin, Texas.
Ray Benson hosted the awards show, which took place at the city’s Paramount Theatre, where Wanda Jackson and the late Red Simpson earned Founder of the Sound awards, while Charley Pride received the Master Award.
In previous years, Caithness Festival visitors like Amber Digby, Bobby Flores and Justin Trevino have been award winners. This year, Jeff Woolsey and The Dancehall Kings were named Honky Tonk Group of the year. Jeff, of course, appeared at last year’s festival in Halkirk.

Gene Watson - at the double

Gene Watson fans are in for a treat later this month, with two albums, containing a total of 63 tracks, are both released on February 26th.
In the States, "Real Country Music" is released, featuring thirteen stone Country songs. Whilst Humphead in the UK release ; "Barrooms & Bedrooms : The Capitol And MCA Years", a 2 CD, 50 track collection of his recordings from way back.

 

New from Vince

The ever popular Vince Gill has released his new album "Down To My Last Bad Habit" here in the UK via Humphead. The album includes "SAd One Comin'On ", a song for George Jones.

 

Nashville invades Belfast

The annual Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival is held in the Northern ireland capital March 2nd-6th, featuring 100 songwriters in 40 concerts across the five days.
All kinds of music is represented , with Gallagher & Lyle and Stephen Bishop headlining the list of performers. Nashville songwriters Gary Burr, Jim Lauderdale and Georgia Middleman are flying in whilst the local Country scene is represented by Derek Ryan.
Filmaker and songwriter John T Davis will be launching his "Last Western Cowboy" Cd at the event.

Ceol Country reruns

There may not be a Caithness Festival this year, but BBC Alba are rekindling memories of the 2011 event, with a rerun of that year's Ceol Country from tonight @ 9pm , repeated Sunday 9pm. 
Look out for Gene Watson, Gail Davies, Justin Trevino, Highway 101, Dominic Kirwan and Canadian band South Mountain.

Stella back in Scotland

Stella Parton is honoring her iconic sister with Mountain Songbird: A Sister’s Tribute, an album of re-recorded songs previously made famous by Dolly, such as Jolene,and Coat Of Many Colours. Mountain Songbird: A Sister’s Tribute also includes a new duet Dolly and Stella co-wrote together, titled “More Power to Ya.” The new album project coincides with a 16-date UK tour which has four Scottish dates :
