Yola Carter
Yola Carter is a rising country-soul singer/songwriter from Bristol, UK, whose recent successes include being voted ‘UK Artist of the Year’ at the AMA UK Awards, a much-hyped performance at AmericanaFest in Nashville and embarking on her first headline UK tour, described by The Times as “spectacular”. Towards the end of 2016 Carter was noted as an ‘artist to watch’ by publications ranging from The Guardian and NPR to Stereogum and No Depression.
Heavily influenced from an early age by Sixties country, Stax-era soul and gospel ranging from The Staple Singers to Otis Redding, Yola was raised in a small seaside town in the South West of the England and “always wan28th July,ed to be a country music artist”. Unafraid to address difficult issues in her lyrics, Yola’s real-life story - both heartbreaking and inspirational - naturally finds its way into her songs. Coming from a poor, broken home and a parent suffering from mental illness who ‘banned’ her from making any music, Yola’s experience of growing up was one of truly living below the breadline. In a working class community in denial of its status where discrimination and even violence fuelled by racism were not unusual, writing music quickly became an outlet and a means of expression, and touring a means of escape.
Yola's EP, "Orphan Offering" was released in the US in April, and she's currently touring Scotland, with dates in Inverness, Dunkeld, Mull, Banchory, Shetland and Stirling's Tolbooth Theatre next Wednesday,

Australian star plays Oran Mor
Australian Country star Morgan Evans, who has just signed with Warner Nashville is in Scotland next week.
Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, a steel and coal town on the east coast, Evans recalls an early interest in music when he started playing guitar at the age of 13. He spent his teenage years seeing the country through the windshield of an old van as he toured in a band with his brother.
Raised listening to artists like Garth Brooks, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Led Zeppelin, it was at the age of 17 when a Keith Urban concert changed his life. From that point on, he knew music was exactly what he wanted to spend his life creating. Signed to Warner Music Australia since 2012, he now continues his relationship with the Warner Music family in Nashville.

Olivia's cancer returns
Olivia Newton-John's cancer battle continues as back pain that initially caused her to cancel some dates on her "LiveOn" tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum.
In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.
"I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” says Olivia Newton-John.
She was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, but has been "cancer free" for over 20 years", and spent the time campaigning on Cancer awareness programmes, setting up a cancer centre in her name in Melbourne, and her latest album, "Live On" with Beth Nielsen Chapman and Amy Sky.

Rodney Crowell has pulled out of this visit to Scotland for next month's Southern Fried Festival, but his place has been ably taken by singer songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman. Beth, who was over here for Celtic Connections in January, will support Loudon Wainwright III at Pert. h Concert Hall on July 29th
Vince joins The Eagles
Vince Gill is joining The Eagles for two US Festivals this summer as part replacement for co-founder Glenn Frey, who passed away last year. The band are playing a two pronged Classic East and Classic West festival in New York amd Los Angeles on the weekends of July 15/16 and 29/30th, alongside Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. Vince, and Glenn's 24year old son Deacon will cover Glenn's role in the iconic line up.
It's not Vince's first Eagles experience. In 1993, top Nashville performers joined together for "Common Thread" an album honouring The Eagles music, where Vince performed "I Can Tell You Why".
