Dean Brody leads Canadian Awards
Dean Brody was the big winner at this years CCMA Awards held in Saskatoon.
He won the Fan Choice Award, aloingside Song Of the Year for his hit "Time,
Other multiple winners included Bert Kizzell who won Male Artist, Video and Interactive Artist, Mehgan Patrick, Female Vocalist and Rising Star, and Dallas Smith who won Album and Single Of The Year Awards. The long running Road Hammers were Group of The Year, and Paul Brandt was inducted into the Canadian Country Hall Of Fame.

Helicopter crash claims Country star's life
Troy Gentry, one half of country duo Montgomery Gentry, has died following a helicopter crash in New Jersey. He was 50.The helicopter's pilot also was killed, authorities said.
Troy and Eddie Montgomery are both natives of Kentucky. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry began performing in the 1990s as part of two different bands with Montgomery's brother, John Michael Montgomery. Although Gentry won a talent contest in 1994, he reunited with Eddie Montgomery after Gentry was unable to find a solo record deal, and Montgomery Gentry was formed in 1999. The duo was known for its Southern rock influences, and collaborated with Charlie Daniels, Toby Keith, Five for Fighting, and members of The Allman Brothers Band.
Montgomery Gentry released six studio albums for Columbia Records which produced more than twenty chart singles for the duo on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. In 2009, they were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

Gentle Giant loss to Country music
The Country Music world mourns the loss of one of its’ most distinctive song stylists with the passing of Don Williams after a short illness. He was 78.
A native of Floydada, Texas, Williams was born May 27, 1939. He grew up in Portland, TX, graduating there in 1958. Music had always been a part of his upbringing, entering – and winning - a talent contest when he was just three years old. For his efforts, Williams received an alarm clock. While living in Corpus Christi in 1964, he formed the folk-styled trio The Pozo Seco Singers with Lofton Cline and Susan Taylor. They stayed together for seven years, with their biggest hit being “Time.”
After the group disbanded in 1969, Williams soon found his way to Nashville. By 1971, he had a songwriting contract with the publishing company owned by Jack Clement. The next year would see Williams ink a recording deal with Clement’s JMI Records. He made his chart debut with “The Shelter of Your Eyes” in 1973, and was soon hitting the charts time and again with a much more laid-back sound than a lot of the music coming out of Nashville at the time.
From that point all the way through 1991, each Williams single would hit the Top-40 on the Billboard Country charts. His 1970s hits included such chart toppers as “Tulsa Time,” “She Never Knew Me,” and “It Must Be Love.” His career grew steadily through label shifts to ABC / Dot, MCA, Capitol, and finally RCA. Williams also gained a devoted following overseas in such unlikely spots as the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand , and even South Africa and Kenya – where he reached superstar status. He was named the Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association in 1978. Though known for being very low-key and soft spoken, Williams did make two movie appearances – 1974’s W.W. and The Dixie Dancekings, and 1980’s Smokey and the Bandit II.
He notched up 56 Country chart hits, including 17 Number 1's. In the Britian, he had 2 chart hits, "I Recall A Gypsy Woman" and "You're My Best Friend".
In 2016, Williams decided that the time was right for his final performance, calling it a career after one of the most successful careers in the history of the Country Music business. "It's time to hang my hat up and enjoy some quiet time at home. I'm so thankful for my fans, my friends and my family for their everlasting love and support," the 76-year-old Williams said in a statement at the time. Last year also saw the final release of Williams’ career, a live CD and DVD recorded in Ireland.
He was managed by Robert Pratt's Glasgow based Chimes International.

Millport headliner cancels in wake of Hurricane Harvey devastation
The Millport Country Music Festival, which starts today has announced that Sunday headliner, Mark Chesnutt will be unable to appear in Millport this year due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding.
"As you know the Gulf area of Texas was hit hard with a hurricane over the last few days. In Beaumont, TX where Mark Chesnutt lives, they received over 30 inches of rain during this storm. Mark cannot leave his house. The streets are flooded and closed. Today the water was shut off to the entire city and electricity is sporadic. The death toll has passed 30 and we fear there will more to come. Mark really wanted to make this show and we tried every way possible to get it done. In the end, it was just too dangerous to drive out on the streets. Please let everyone from the Millport Festival know that Mark and his family are safe, but to please pray for the people on the Gulf Coast, it’s going to take a long time get things cleaned up and the area back to normal. We hope we can it make to Scotland for a show in future."
In light of this announcement the Sunday concert venue at Millport Country Music Festival will now feature Gary Quinn, Adley Stump, Ivory, David Ray & Morgan Frazier and will be headlined by Glasgow's own Ashton Lane.
In aid of those affected by the situation in Texas, tickets for this venue on Sunday 3rd September are now FREE with a suggested contribution of £5 per wristband that will be donated to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent flooding.
For those that have already purchased tickets for the Sunday concert venue a full refund will be available or 50% refund for those that have purchased weekend tickets. All admission monies and profits from festival t-shirts on Sunday will go to Texas to help in some small way the hardships being experienced there, all unclaimed refunds will be added to this.
The Saturday concert headlined by The Shires and the core-festival will proceed as planned.
All tickets allocated to date will still be valid on Sunday. Additional tickets will be available from the Nashfield Ticket Office at the concert venue on a first come first serve basis throughout the weekend.
The entire Millport Team send our thoughts to Mark and his family, his management team and all those affected by Hurricane Harvey; that they stay safe and that we plan to put on one heck of a show to raise as much as we can in support of those affected.
